Macaroni Au Gratin

This comes from a store brand pasta box.

8 oz. elbow macaroni
2 tbsp butter
2 tbsp flour
2 cups milk
1 tsp salt
1/8 tsp black pepper
1/2 lb. American or Cheddar cheese
1/2 cup buttered bread crumbs

Cook macaroni and place in buttered casserole. Melt butter in saucepan, add flour and milk, stir slowly until it thifckens. Add salt and pepper. Cut cheese into cubes and scatter over macaroni. Cover top with bread crumbs. Pour sauce over all. Bake in moderate oven (350 degrees) for 30 minutes. Serves 4.
